Excellent shot, Greg! I shoot cat pix, but when a friend asked me to take pix of her (all) black cat, I couldn't get anything like this...it was a disaster. Any tips on lighting, etc?

Startlingly clear detail and great white/black contrast in this image, Greg, very nicely balanced and love the sharp whiskers! Well done!! I have a black cat, too, like Jean I'd be interested in any tips you have on photographing them. Thanks! #365369

Theresa,Jean,Colette,and Carol,
Thank you all for your very nice comments! Jean and Carol, shooting cats is always a challenge -- they always seem to know what you're up to and find some way to foil your attempts. Black cats can be a real lighting challenge. Very strong lighting such as on camera flash or direct sunlight usually results in extreme contrast between highlight and shadow areas. Broad indirect light such as window light or a large studio soft-box tends to create much better results. I have a studio image of Miss Priss in my BetterPhoto gallery done with a studio strobe and soft-box. This image of Miss Priss was done with window light in my home office. She was taking an early morning nap in my computer chair and I managed to catch this shot of her before she 'high-tailed it'. I hope this helps somewhat.
God Bless,
Greg #365429

This is excellent, Greg. After photographing some black dogs for friends I have been very glad my cats aren't black. You've done this perfectly. #489214

Thank you Carol! She is a lot harder to photograph than our other cat, 'Ziggy'. The lighting has to be just right to create detail and separation. Thanks again!
God Bless,
