Description

I caught this tiny sweat bee hovering over the flower of a flax plant in my flower garden yesterday morning. To give you an idea of how small these little bees are, the flower itself is about an inch across. The sweat bee is less than a 1/4 inch from head to beehind! Sigma 50mm f2.8 EX DG macro lens. Sunlight, hand held, manual focus, flash assist from Canon 580EX flash unit. f8; ISO 100; 1/200.

Thank you very much, Lorri! You are right on the mark about how difficult it is to get these kind of shots, but that is the beauty of digital cameras (no developing cost for the "bad" pictures). I try and anticipate the shot, and then squeeze off about 5 or 6 rapid bursts with the camera. Sometimes I get lucky! #2829627
