THE LAST ICEBOAT*

Uploaded: October 23, 2003 03:41:55

Description

I used a Canon 300 IS L lens to capture this ice boat racer as he sped by me on what felt like the coldest place on earth.. This was shot in Redbank NJ in the middle of the frozen Navesink River. The sub zero wind chills and temps caused my camera to freeze up until I changed the battery which I kept in my inside pocket.

Wow, this is making me have chills!! Be careful with your digital in the winter! Don't want any frozen digitals! LOL.. I really wasn't ready for a freezing cold shot just yet! Maybe next July! HA!! Great shot, he looks like he is standing still! #242548

Wow, outstanding work Donna! Thanks for the added details on how you captured this image. Sometimes we forget that getting that great shot takes a lot more work than most people know! Great work as usual! Jeff #242564

Neat image... I like the feeling of cold caused by all the blue the image has! I took pictures on a cold Colorado winters morning once, and had to keep putting the battery in my pocket to take an image, and had to keep repeating the process! #242655

Nice image, Donna! Wonderful silhouette and all that blue really makes it look cold. #242661

Enjoyed the chill from looking at this picture. It is still hot down here. The color really adds to the feeling of coldness. Well done. Ma #242664

Hi Colette, Carolyn, Sharon,MUrry, Katarzna,Steven and Jeff! Wow, thaanks for all of the comments.
Jeff and Setven,, Yes, this was a very tough image to capture. The boat was speeding by me and the wind chills were making it tough to get any kind of image because fingers were frozen to bone even though I had a thick pair of army gloves on.

The camera seemed to freeze up at the most crutial moments of this ice boat race but I lucked out because I had extra batteries in my inner pockets under the the third layer of clothing. This year though if I cover the race, I'll bring hand warmers and stuff them in my pockets. That's the only way to prevent camera failure and frost bite in sub zero weather that I know of.. #242691
