Thank you all for your kind comments. This is a wonderful and huge castle with one of the largest tournament yards still existing. Normally the falcons sit perched beneath the arches - you can see some of their blocks.
Patricia: The writing was carved into the paint in 1943 during the war, when part of the castle was destroyed.
I'll lead you into another world with a photo I want to attach for all of you especially - Renaissance. The Duke and the Dutchess with their horses and their favorite falcon.
