When the Music Fades

Description

My great grandmother danced and performed professionally in the late 1800's through the early 1900's, touring with several different dance companies across the U.S. and overseas. This is the only costume that I have of hers. It is reversible and quite unique. During her performance, she began attired in Cuban colors then by a swift movement in the midst of the dance, she changed into American colors. According to several newspaper articles, this always brought thunderous applause and preceded the choir singing "Uncle Sam, tell us why you are waiting."

The story behind the picture was fascinating to read Carrie. I bet we would all be applauding to see her dance. You are such a master at composing and putting together these still life beauties. This is so elegant, each piece has a place, each pieces colors and details are gorgeous. It is an elegant look, and now, with the story, it is even more beautiful. Take a bow Carrie, you deserve it. #11728385
