Description

The massive outdoor statue of the Great Buddha sits in the lotus position on the grounds of the Kotokuin temple in Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The bronze statue, dating from 1252, is a national treasure and one of the most famous icons of Japan. It is more than 43 feet high and weighs about 186,000 pounds.
