Thanks for caring. It was heartbreaking last night to watch Dad come back to the nest and he just stared for ages with a look of confusion on his face and then he sat on the nest for over two hours, so sad! #11679579

I'm feeling incredibly sad today. I have been following the live stream of the albatross chick on Tairoa Head, Dunedin, New Zealand since it was born just over a month ago. Everything seemed to be going well, chick had put on lots of weight, but sadly last night the mother albatross parent attacked and killed it. Not sure why but something has gone terribly wrong. This was the parent that raised the first webcam chick, Moana, two years ago and it was very successful. I guess we will never know the reason why. I feel for dad who has yet to come back to the nest and when he does his chick will not be there.
