Uncle Ted

Description

I participated in Wreaths Across America this morning; under that program, some 247,000 wreaths were laid at the graves of Arlington Cemetery today. I arrived early enough that I got to place the wreath at the grave of my great-uncle, Conrad ("Ted") whose gravestone is shown here, in line with the tree trunk. I never knew him personally; in the week before the Army-Navy football game earlier this month, ridiculously rampant team spirit in the office demanded I choose sides (never followed the game before.) That prompted me to search for information on Ted's naval service... I learned he was at Pearl Harbor during the attack... I then discovered, and have now connected with, his daughter; a first-cousin once-removed I simply never knew existed!

Thanks so much, Anita! It was a wonderful experience today... there had to be 10 or 20 thousand people there, helping lay down the wreaths. A real treat then, to place Ted's, and send a photo along to his daughter! #11665134
