San Zaccaria Venice

Description

The crypt of the church of San Zaccaria in Venice is somewhere between 800 and 1000 years old. One feature for which it is particularly renowned -- it routinely has a shallow amount of water flooding the crypt floor, creating an astonishing mirror image of itself. A narrow brick walkway rises a few inches out of the water, allowing visitors to observe this remarkable sight without disturbing the still water.

Oh Wow! Great photo, Chris. I have been to Venice three or four times and never thought to photograph this. Maybe a reason to return. #11660488

Thanks, Anita, Rudi & Harriet -- the church, like many in Venice, has short opening hours, if you make it back. #11660661

Thank you very much, Martha! I had read about this chapel in advance of my first trip, but had no time to seek it out until my 2nd trip. I had the place to myself, which was nice, to take my time trying shots (without a tripod). #11669619
