Description

This little guy is weird looking, but he was out on the blossoms just resting there. Maybe someone can identify it??? I cropped it some so we could better enjoy the details of this little guy. I was using my KX-800 twin flash, camera set to manual, using my Canon 100 mm L macro lens. Settings were f16, 1/250, ISO 200.

Great capture of what is known as an Assassin Bug Zelus sp. They are expert hunters, it's probably looking for bees, wasps, ants or flower beetles and come in a range of colours and looks and some mimic other invertebrates. Great colours, lighting, comp and details in this great macro capture Shirley! #11574737

Thank you, Hayden, I really do appreciate your comment, and especially you taking the time to identify this insect! I sure hate to hear that he looks for bees, as we are already short on them. I had no idea what he was. <>< #11574829

Hayden Cannon March 24, 2017

Not a worry Shirley I know invertebrates really well so I knew it when I saw the picture. Yeah I know there's shortage on bee's sad as it is but the assassin bug needs his food. However he'll more likely go for ants hope he leaves your bee's :) #11574850

Thank you, Joanna. Yes, you are right, photography has caused me to learn much about the smaller creatures around us, which is good. This site is good too be a part of too, as so many of the photographers, like Hayden, are willing to share their knowledge! <>< #11596942
