19,240 Somme Shrouds

Uploaded: November 11, 2016

Description

Between the 1st of July and 18th of November 1916, 127,751 British Empire Servicemen lost thier lives in what was the bloodiest battle in military history.

Artist Rob Heard created, by hand, 19,240 12" figurines wrapped in shrouds ( each representation in its own unique "pose") to represent each of the men who lost thier lives on the first, and bloodiest days of that battle.
The art installation will be in place at College Green Bristol for the next 5 days.

The 2050 pieces of wood are representations of the figurines already sold in support of the armed forces charity ssafa.

This is an image I took tonight (11/11/16)
