Description

I love starfish. I remember collecting them by the bucketfuls on the Eastern shoreline when I was about 12. Now, the starfish are seeing a major decline in population and scientists are trying to understand why. Climate change is seeing temperatures of oceans going up. Rising atmospheric temperatures are also causing glaciers to melt adding more fresh waters to the oceans. This has been causing a de-salination of ocean waters. Whatever the cause may be, it will be a sorrowful day to see such lovely creatures as the star fish disappear. I dedicate this photo of the Purple Starfish that I saw on the shores of the spit in Homer, Alaska to starfish everywhere. May they survive this influx of nature so that our future generations may enjoy them for years to come.
