It is such a delightful photo, Eleanor. How do you take the background out and add the flying leaves? I would love to do something like this. #2147901

Hi Joanne,
thank you for the compliment. Actually I don't remove or add anything. The style is called Hi-key. The trick is to photograph on a white background and light the bg lighter than the subject or at least equal to it. I use two Britek PS300 flash units with softboxes and a small hair light. I use the hair light to light the subject and the more powerful to light the bg. This will give you a clean non shadowed look. The leaves were not added, I had a pile of leaves and let the kids be kids and play in them. Since the lights are sinced to my camera they flash when I press the shutter and stop the action of her throwing them into the air. I really just lucked out that the leaves were in the right places. I only took one pic of her throwing them and the leaves just fell in good places. Hope that helps. I bought my bg and lights from an ebay seller that I trust, Steve Kaeser backgrounds. Great prices and fast delivery.
The background is not muslin it is what her calls white poly canvas.

#2331395

Eleanor Caputo January 24, 2006

Actually it does get old LOL. I mistakenly entered it in the wrong theme last month and before I realized it, it won finalist and then 2nd place. I entered it in the Joy theme because that was the one I meant it for in the first place, hoping it might win first place. Sorry to win again with it. I couldn't delete it or it would have wiped out the first win. Didn't really know what to do. :o) But thanks for all thenice comments!! #2331425
