The highly successful Ice Bucket ALS challenge fundraiser in 2014 and subsequently the Oscar-nominated movie, "The Theory of Everything," evoked this memory from September of 2012. Bill's decades-old friend, Jan, had been recently diagnosed with ALS just months before and after a loss of communications, we learned that she was on the brink of passing and drove from Philadelphia to Maryville Tennessee to visit her. Jan still had the use of her hands, but could move nothing else except her eyes. She was on a respirator and had been semi-comatose, but had become alert and perked up when she heard Bill was coming. We spent the weekend with her, and she lived long enough to see this photo. Less than a week later, Jan "walked on." Photo reworked with TOPAZ Restyle.
