Russian Orthodox Cross

Description

The Suppedaneum cross also known as the Russian Orthodox Cross is a variation of the Christian cross. The cross has three horizontal crossbeams. The top represents the plate inscribed with INRI. The bottom is a footrest in Russian tradition, the lower beam is slanted: the side to Christ's right is higher pointing upward to penitent thief St. Dismas and the downward to impenitent thief Gestas.
