Description

Last year, the Southeast PA Red Cross chapter (SEPA) responded to more than 800 fires in and around Philadelphia. And in the aftermath of a devastating or fatal fire, Red Cross volunteers partner with the Fire Department to distribute fire safety material and to install smoke detectors in homes throughout the neighborhood. This volunteer is following the fire fighters into a row home, with two smoke detectors in hand. I watched a fireman installing a smoke detector, standing on a ladder at the top of a stairway, in a house with no electricity to light his way. "Not a problem," he told me.
