Tundra Buggy Lodge

This is the mobile Tundra Buggy Lodge where we lived on the tundra and polar ice. We spent the first 5 days at Gordon Point on Hudson Bay in Manitoba. Then the lodge was dismantled and we pulled the various units with the Tundra Buggies we had use for photographing to Cape Churchill some 8 hours away. We had a axle break on the supply section and had to have one flown in from Churchill so we got to photograph around the area till it was repaired. We got to Cape Churchill at 11PM. It took only 45 minutes to rehook up the units of the lodge using large spot lights. Supper was served at 12:30 AM then we crashed. My bed was at the far right end on lower window. Those two end units were the sleeping quarters and the one with lot of windows the lounge/dinning. Not seen are the kitchen, supply and sleeping quarters for the staff.

Fascinating. That must have been a fantastic trip. Back in the 70's, a colleague (young woman at the time) camped out (in a tent) in Churchill, suffered from wearing cold, wet, underwear (dried over a fire but not quite), and a great adventure. She was the most intrepid person! I'd rather do ityour way. #11181935Michelle Alton November 09, 2014
