Description

An Internet search answered all the questions that I had about this symbol of Nazi hate I discovered on this Buddha. One source explained:
"The swastika's Indian name comes from the Sanskrit word svasti, meaning good fortune, luck and well being... It has been a part of many ancient cultures and religions, including Buddhism, for thousands of years.
"The Buddhist swastika is almost always clockwise, while the swastika adopted by the Nazis (many of whom had occult interests) is counterclockwise." This Buddha is one of the exceptions.

How interesting to read all about the Symbol. It confused me when we saw it. Mare, this is such a beautiful photo. One of the things I learned while we were there was that their faith is based on all good things and balance. Realism to our natures but trying to suppress the evil in our natures with meditation. Same as we feel with our our faith! :)) !! Balance is what your perfect image here has and it just adds to what they are all about. What we all strive for. Very beautiful. I hope the judges stop and appreciate this one! -Pommy on Palm #11173656

Hi Mary,
Enjoying your new images. I really want to comment on all of them, but then I know that it will obligate you and I don't want that.
So this is one of my very very short comments!
WOW!!!
HEHE!
SO well captured with great clarity and depth. You also managed to show symmetry and harmony, which is the most impressive and also very appropriate.
P.S. Good job on the internet search. It is very true. This symbol still haunts a lot of Danes. #11176012

Thank you for all your kind words, Kiki. You got a lot of mileage out of that WOW! didn't you? :D
Seriously, I always appreciate the time and effort you take to comment so thoughtfully on subjects such as this. I didn't realize that the swastika was hated and feared by the Danes, but it makes sense ~ yours is a comparatively small country, so close to Germany...what European country could escape the nasty reality of Hitler and his henchmen? A dreadful time in history.
And neo-Nazis tell themselves it never happened! They should visit Dachau (or any other concentration camp), as I have. In the museum, the photos of children used for medical experiments are REAL! No Photoshop in the '40's!
Ohhh...enough sadness and anger. I'll think of kindness, instead. Which I can't help but think of whenever you come to mind, my Danish friend. #11176826
