"Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple is a traditional Chinese Buddhist mountain monastery, in the U.S. state of California. It is one of the largest of its kind in North America." (The photo shows the Main Shrine of the Temple in the middle.)
It is special because very few people, whether tourist or local, know it exists, despite its fascinating displays, statues, historical information, etc.
I visited it on Monday with Laura Swan, another member of the bp community. It was a photographer's dream! Between the two of us, you can expect to see any number of photos in the months ahead.

What a great idea to go to this lovely and peaceful temple with my lovely and peaceful dear friend!! -Pommy on PALM! ;) #11152753Mary K. Robison October 06, 2014
Hi, Pom! Thanks for your messages tonight. I'm glad you like this. And I'm SO glad we shared the day at the monastery. I told Scott you were the perfect person to make that visit with, and I meant it. Your personality fits so well with the loving nature of the culture that created everything we saw last Monday. Thank YOU for being willing to tackle all those stairs! (I still can't believe we didn't use the elevators!) ;-DDAnnette Carr October 16, 2014
Beautiful picture! Looks like you and Laura Swan had a great adventure. #11160166Mary K. Robison October 17, 2014
Thanks for commenting, Annette. #11160853Laura E. Swan October 17, 2014
There were elevators? HeeHee... :)))) hey and guess what? I figured out where the extra acres were that we couldn't find. They were BEHIND the INNER Temple. has we gotten there earlier I bet we could have found the passage way. (Unless it was a private area, forbidden to outsiders?) -Pom #11161254Mary K. Robison October 18, 2014
Hi, Pom. I think your last sentence covers it all...Would YOU want meat-eating trespassers invading your sacred grounds? But you're right about getting there earlier. So much to see, so little time. It's a great incentive for you to return ASAP and check out what we missed! #11161472Laura E. Swan October 18, 2014
Sounds like a PLAN! And we could eat a salad first and not Taco Bell. Maybe they will let us see the back 40 if they smell no meat? :))) #11161631Mary K. Robison October 19, 2014
How about IHOP? Pancakes and eggs sound good right now. The combination of your gentle request and my stubborn pursuit of a passageway would surely give us access, to at least another acre, if not all 40/50. ;-D #11162105Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
