On Edge

Description

Horseshoe Bend, near Page, Arizona. It’s nearly a 1,000 foot vertical drop to the Colorado River, with no handrails except at a small viewing area. For the vast majority of the horseshoe area, you can walk right to the very edge.

HDR image; five exposures from the parent RAW image. It’s very hard to get proper exposure on the bright sky without dark interior canyon walls. Or, good exposure on the interior canyon walls without washing out the sky. But with HDR software, it’s fairly straight forward to blend the five exposures into a composite image that looks like what our eyes see.

Exif: F Number: 9, Exposure Bias Value: -0.33, ExposureTime: 1/160 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 200, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 17.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
