Seems like LOTUS?

----
The original pond at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve (in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania) was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. A beautiful new pond was designed and created in a different location in the park. In its second year of existence, the pond and its water- and perimeter plants is flourishing almost beyond imagination.
----
From its flower, leaf, and seed pod, this specimen has all the ear marks of a lotus. But it is growing on the pond's EDGE and is not submerged in water.
-----
Could this BE a lotus?

The photo was made on July 8.

Looks like a lotus. I suppose you'll need to update all with a photo later on. Nice story too, Michelle! #11100910Debbie Bray August 04, 2014 1
Michelle, I am sure it is a lotus, as long a they have some of their roots dipping into the water, they will survive - I've seen that before, as the water starts to decline. Beautiful capture!!Bojan Bencic August 04, 2014

A beautiful flower and setting Michelle! It would be good to see this one in another months time! #11101509Val Feldman August 04, 2014 1
Believe Bojan is correct - it's an American lotus. I've seen them growing wild along the Mississippi mudflats - quite a sight. In any event, as long as its roots are anchored in mud, it'll grow and spread via rhizomes. It's a "two day" flower - opening one day, closing at night, opening the second day when at some point, the petals fall off. You capture of this pretty delicately colored lotus is lovely against the old stonework, Michelle...hope you get to see one fully opened! #11101601Mitch Spence August 04, 2014 1
Love seeing it tall like that, as though stretching for the view. I'd never heard of this sort of lotus, but will keep my eye out for it now. #11101609MELODIE C. ROBERTS August 04, 2014
