Carnival Rides
Uploaded: November 13, 2005
Taken at our fall festival at church. Lots of different things going on. First time taken pictures of rides at night. I took lots of different ones but not to many turned out. Any suggestions on night time shooting?

Beautiful, Kay!! Love the colors and detail. Looks as if you had lots of fun, too! #2070907Darryl Wilkinson November 13, 2005
Great shot Kay! What suggestions do you want? This looks great. Are you using a tripod, light meter? Slower shutter speed is essential at night. Nice work here!!! #2071084Mick Burkey November 13, 2005
Great play with colors. It really jumps out at you. Nice job! #2071148Jane Summa November 13, 2005
Love the bright colors against the dark sky, Kay #2071155Ken Smith November 13, 2005

Awesome image! Great work! #2071567Kay E. Mahoney November 13, 2005
Thank you Linda, Patricia, Darryl, Mick, Jane, Ken and Sandra for all of your wonderful comments. Darryl, I'm not using a tripod. I was just holding the camera and snapping away at the photos. Just had it on a regular manual setting. I need to study up on the camera to learn more about what setting to use at different times. There is so much to learn with it. Thanks again everyone. #2071670Janine Russell November 14, 2005
Kay, great colors, lighting and detail; do you know what your camera settings (f stop & speed) were? did you use a flash? #2072019Ann Bruynseels November 14, 2005
Beautiful ! #2072131Nina Shields November 14, 2005
Kay, you nailed this one; this looks terrific, can't see where you would need any suggestions, you ought to be giving them! Powerful shot, beautifully executed! #2073353April Riggs November 14, 2005
Looks like fun, you did a great job on htis shot. #2074649Kaye Burazin November 14, 2005
Kay, you captured this wonderfully! Have tried night shots and if shot in manual settings from trial and error, I needed to change the shutter speed with every movement. Also a tripod is essential at the lower speeds. Learning manuel settings is so much fun Kay and a whole new learning experience! You have such an excellent eye for photography and shooting in manuel mode gives you more control. #2075049Alisha L. Ekstrom November 14, 2005
WONDERFUL night shot Kay. LOVE that sky!! Yes a TRIPOD is a must for night shots. THIS turned out great though for not using a tripod! #2075246Cathy M. Gromball November 14, 2005
Wonderful capture, Kay!Cathy :) #2075532

Looks like you got it right Kay. I think using a tripod with a slow shutter speed is what most do. This was an excellent capture and beautiful light. #2075617Kay E. Mahoney November 14, 2005
Thank you Janine, Ann, Nina, April, Kaye, Alisha, Cathy and Emile for all of your wonderful comments. Janine I just had it set on the manual setting and I did have the flash on. Thanks to all on the suggestion on using a tripod. #2075691Lynn Crawford November 14, 2005

Kay, this one turned out nice and sharp! Love the color of the sky in sharp contrast to the bright carnival lights! Say, did anyone mention a tripod? :-) I'm such a tease! I think the only time I use a tripod is at night! I don't do many night shots :-) #2077066Joline Frazier November 15, 2005
I like your carnival shots, and this one in particular is very nice. #2078913Cathy Barrows November 16, 2005
great comp to include two rides #2082417Michael S. Baker November 16, 2005
Great shot, Kay..nice colors. Good sharpness, considering you did not use a tripod. Thinking I had sturdy hands I used to shoot at night without a tripod. It makes a BIG difference when using one.Keep shooting!

Thank you Joannie, Joline, Cathy, and Michael for your wonderful comments. Yes Joannie I've had a number of people mention a tripod. Never thought about it. I have four of them and have never used any of them for any photo shoots. #2085295Ronald F. Fischer November 16, 2005
