Description

Within Arlington Cemetery, not far from the Iwo Jima Memorial, stands the Netherlands Carillon, a 1954 gift of the Dutch people in gratitude for American aid during and after the second World War. The tower rises 127 feet and houses 50 bronze bells collectively weighing 30 tons. The carillon allows for automated playing as well as live performances; Mr. Edward Nassor, carillonneur for Washington National Cathedral, also performs here.
