Description

In the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires is La Recoleta Cemetery. It is built around what was once a convent and church, Our Lady of Pilar. It is laid out in sections like city blocks. It contains the graves of notable Argentinians (Presidents, Nobel Prize winners, military leaders, etc.). In all, there are 4691 vaults, all of them above ground, of which 94 have been declared Historical National Monuments by the Argentine government.
