Hay! I like this shot...

I think its very well composed but I perhaps the highlights could be toned down, and I think the shadows look unnaturally blue, but I would wait to hear what the others say about that.. #1563270

Dale Hardin February 12, 2014

Agree with Tony, Kristin. Would also suggest opening the shadows a bit to reveal the texture in the end of the roll of hay. #10974068

Kristin Duff February 12, 2014

just for fun I took all the blue out and tried lightening the shadows at the end of the roll... #10974070

Anthony's suggestions #10974075

Dale Hardin February 12, 2014

I like the edit with the blue removed. Nice job. #10974104

Jeff E Jensen February 12, 2014

I think either edit works great. #10974175

Kalena Randall February 12, 2014

Nice work on this one, Kristen. I, like, Dale, like the one with the blue taken out. It makes the snow look more natural. The frostiness of the shot is sharp and great looking! #10974187

Elaine Hessler February 12, 2014

Exactly what I would have suggested:) I prefer the first edit without the blue. Looks VERY frosty and cold!

By the way, did I tell you how much I like hay bales??? There's something about them. I am finding they are wrapped in plastic more often around here-such a shame... #10974297

Stephen Shoff February 12, 2014

I like having fun, too.

do you think the completely blank sky adds anything to the composition? Try a crop down to the horizon line, or maybe just enough above to give the top of the brush a little breathing room.

Then clone out the watering system along the right margin, since it will become more noticeable. #10974359

Stephen's suggestions #10974397

Stephen Shoff February 12, 2014

I think that helps the sky look more like distant fields. Increases the sense of space and depth. #10974431

Elaine Hessler February 13, 2014

It almost looks like a color splash now-not sure if the removal of sky resulted in some loss of color on top. I think I like the original crop. #10974941

great shot Kristin I like both edits but favoring the non-blue a little more. I like Stephen crop. great winter shot

We got another 3 or 4 inches of snow last night...I don't know if we will ever see green grass again. #10976124

Teresa H. Hunt February 15, 2014

I really like the non-blue edit! It looks very cold there. #10976812

Peter W. Marks February 16, 2014

The final version does it for me Kristen. The grey sky holds it all together so well.
And Tony. Love the witty pun!

Back in my day hay bales were rectangular and happy memories would be of sitting on one holding hands with the pretty young lady from our neighbour's farm. #10977405

Debbie E. Payne February 16, 2014

I like th "non-blue" version best. Very nice shot, Kristen. brrrrr.... #10977568

Beth Spencer February 16, 2014

I like the non blue edits and Stephen's crop! Very nice composition. I am really sick of snow bout now, it has not stopped snowing for the last 5 days! #10977572

I like the edit with the blue removed as well. #10980290
