The Empty Nave

Uploaded: January 15, 2014

Description

A very rare sighting; the nave of Washington National Cathedral completely emptied of the chairs that usually fill the space. This is also a night time capture; a weeklong series of programs is taking place, many in the evenings, intended to take advantage of the temporarily emptied space.
For PG101 "Something Old, Something New" Theme; 14th century English Gothic, the building was started in 1907. The "new" aspect is the damage from the 2011 earthquake, hinted at by the black debris netting hanging below the vaulted ceiling, until the entire 500' length of the ceiling can be inspected and repaired.

Exif: F Number: 14, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 32/10 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 400, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 16.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 6D
