A memory jogger! I'm going back 57 (oy!) years for this one. On our way home fro somewhere, my friend, Gracie Gershuny, and I saw a huge column of black smoke rising from the hills behind our school. We were six years old. Just about when we saw the smoke, we saw a fire box that looked JUST LIKE THIS photo. Gracie boosted me up so I could pull the lever. Then we went home, thinking we'd done a good deed.

But later that night, two policemen came to our door. Now HOW they had a record of my finger prints is beyond me. Maybe someone had reported our antics. But BOY, did I get in trouble for THAT one.

But Gracie and I would live to get in trouble several more times before her family moved to Israel.

Thanks for the memory. Gracie is now a fairly famous ecologist in Vermont. Volumes could be written about that little red headed girl with pigtails and freckles! #10904304
