Port Richmond Coal Wharf: Pier 18

Uploaded: August 31, 2013

Description

----
From Pier 18 on the Delaware Rive, coal was loaded onto ships back in the day. But by the 1970′s modern roadways brought Philadelphia’s shipping industry to a close. Where water highways once carried giant ships and ferries, trucking now reigns as King. Pier 18 is one of 12 abandoned piers on the Philadelphia river front.
----
Concrete structures all along the pier form a graffiti labyrinth; a photography haven for those intrepid enough to venture into its creepy maze.

The Ben Franklin Bridge is seen in the background.
----
Used the new Topaz plugin, "Restyle" to enhance the "noir" mood...as if it wasn't already "noir" enough!

---
Congratulations to all the July winners.
