Point for the Team in Black?
Uploaded: August 17, 2013
---
This was my first Roller Derby experience. I'm told this was VERY TAME for the sport, but at least I had a chance to at least TRY to learn the game.
----
Holy Rollers!!!
----
In this scene both referees are pointing at the person from their respective team (you can tell by the color of their wrist bands. The ref with the black wrist band is also indicating by his finger pointed upward that the team has scored a point.
---
There's only one person, called "the Jammer" who can score a point for his/her team. That person has the star on his/her helmet. But at any time, someone else can BECOME the Jammer. It's SO confusing.
-----
But in THIS case, it APPEARS that the person scoring the point has just been fallen on.
----
Oh...points are scored by overtaking a skater on the other opposing team. If four skaters are passed, four points are scored.
-----
If anyone can explain what is happening here, much appreciated!

This is awesome, Michelle! #1540807Michelle Alton August 17, 2013
I THINK this was shot a fraction of a second before the shot I entered. It appears that the PIVOT (with the helmet strip) has become a Jammer and has just overcome the red Jammer, who is about to fall. But I'm kind of just guessing. #10811593Mitch Spence August 17, 2013
Good grief, Michelle, I didn't even know roller derbies had scores and winners and losers. I really don't know what I thought it was. Wow, the education we get here. #10811599Jeff Robinson August 18, 2013

We have a female roller derby team in our town. One of my shooting buddies got her arm and wrist broken in a game and really messed up her photo shooting arm for months. She never went back to roller derby.Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
