Ok that is really cool, and so much different from mine! Glad you posted first. I love what you did with the color-more red and the backdrop of the stars is excellent-so clear. Just curious, what were your settings on the stars? Just asking because they are so sharp. Nice one! #1532977

Sorry it has taken me so long to get going. We arrived home to several minor problems – nothing serious, but time consuming. The two big ones were Sherry’s mom and a broken sprinkler system and lots of dead grass.

Thor of course is Jeff. Thanks again for hosting our get together Jeff. Please thank your wife and Doug for us again for all their work and contribution to the fun. Sherry and I had a great time!

This is my favorite light painting shot. I color changed it from the gold color to this deep red and replaced the sky area with a star shot taken the same night. Jeff I know you often clone out the person, but I thought it worked to have you in the shot on this one – your thoughts?

Thank you Elaine, the star shot was 16mm f2.8 at 30 seconds ISO 1600. I sure had a good time that night. So glad I got the chance to meet you and Beth. This is my first time on since we returned so I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s shots.

Absolutely fantastic, Mike! I wouldn't change a thing.

I do have to correct one of your statements, I rarely clone the person out of the image. Depending on what tool is being used to paint, you can see the person to varying degrees.

You are right, in this image, it works really well to have me show. And, the stars are a great addition.

I'm glad you enjoyed this evening. We couldn't have asked for better conditions, that's for sure. #10738511

I really like the addition of the star background Mike. Nice touch. Still haven't had a change to review what I got that night. #10738782

Thanks Jeff – nice words indeed from the master of this type of shot. Thanks for correcting my error on the clone. Don’t know where I got that idea.

Thank you so much Kalena and Teresa I really like to get a “WOW” now and then and two on a single post makes my day!

Thanks Dale – what a wonderful night we had. I would have enjoyed it even if nothing had turned out, but I hope you had better luck than that.

Well you get a wow from me too:) #10739456

Jeff E Jensen June 20, 2013

It's actually a common misunderstanding, Mike. If the person painting keeps moving, and the light sources aren't too strong, the person won't show up. In the case of steel wool, you have a very strong light source falling on a pretty stationary person so you are more likely to have the person show up. Additional light sources can "overwrite" the person, such as fading sunset, etc. Usually this is achieved by leaving the shutter open for a very long time after spinning the steel wool. #10739468

I like you idea for the replacement starry sky. It turned out well. #10740337

I will give you a third WOW I am not sure how you did the sky replacement, it amazing looks like that is how you took the image. I like the red, great job!!! #10740675

Thank you Elaine – love those “WOWs”

Thanks Jeff – great explanation. I was amazed how clear you showed up in this shot. You apparently hold pretty still while slinging that “hammer” around.

Thank you Stephen. I just used the color selection and cleaned it up a bit and popped it over one of the star exposures we took later in the evening.

Thank you for another one Rita! The replacement was fun, but I also thought the color change is what made this shot I am glad you like it too. Looks like volcanoes to me.

I have to chime in with another big Wow! Captivating light and beautiful colors, Mike. I love the stars! It looks like The Gathering of Phellos was a fantastic experience for everyone! #10741757

Michael Kelly level-classic June 23, 2013

Thank you Susan - the get together was a lot of fun and I got to see and photograph some things I had never seen or photographed before. The best part is to meet the people we "talk" to so much online. The amazing part is that in the two of the three get togethers we have had so far that I was at it is like getting together with old friends even though we have many of us have met each other for the first time. #10742826

Elaine Hessler June 23, 2013

Agreed. I admit I was wondering how we would all get along for the few days we were together, but it seemed like family once we got to know each other. That was the best part, now I know the people behind the posts! I really can't wait for the next one. We should do these more than once a year:)

And now I can put a face to the frog! #10742848
