One day the edits I tried doing on my last post will become easy and I'll wonder why they ever seemed hard. Until then, I'm re-posting with a shot from the Shaolin Temple's night show. This guy was doing kung fu moves with this lights wrapped around him. It was pretty cool. They also had a few guys floating in the mountains chasing each other dressed in lights like this. All those shots are blurry though. This shot is heavily cropped. I'll post the original. #1529677

You never cease to amaze me with the depth of what you are witness too, Lisa. Amazing variety of location and subject matter.

As far as editing, this can be helped considerably if processed in the raw editor.

This is really cool and give me some ideas for a light painting shoot. . . #10707167

I agree, really cool. And it looks like you did a great job under those conditions. #10707175

Thanks everyone. Dale, if you're still coming to China, you could try to go. The mountains are really beautiful there also. I have the raw editor, and shot this in raw. What edits should I try? Here's some more shots from the show. #10707439

Lisa, I would love so much to travel there. Problem is, it is so large it's hard to figure where to travel. I may have an opportunity sometime this year with my neighbor on a tour, Will have to wait and see how his schedule unwinds.

I was facinated by "Shaodin night 1". Marvelous image. I can see it now with the background subjects cloned out and a sky of stars.

The other image should react well in the raw editor by simply reducing highlights and increasing blacks. I use PSE so cannot be selective, but if you have CS5 you could also reduce the exposure except on the skin tones. I would have to take it into PSE to do that. #10707468

another very interesting shot lisa, I agree with Dale when you come home you will have some great memories that most people will never see.

Lisa I am not sure what you use, but in my cs4 and cs6 when I do a level adjustment where it says preset default click on the arrow and a new menu will come up. go to mid tones darker I really like what it does to iamage. you can play with the slider a little. #10707758

This is a great image, Lisa. I really like your original with more background, cropped with an aspect ratio appealing to you (to get the dancer out of center). It would emphasize the bright lights against a suggestion of vast and total darkness. Very cool images. #10711061

Thanks Rita and Susan. I tried for an edit and re-crop.
It is a big country to try ad visit Dale; I remember you said you might go with your neighbour. Shaolin Temple is in Henan province, and there's really big grottoes here also, in Luoyang. #10711311

I love the revised crop for its simplicity and artistic appeal, Lisa. I suppose it's a matter of taste, but it really appeals to me. #10711465

I like the edit Lisa the crop is better and I believe you have a little more detail in the lights now #10712910

Thank you for sharing these - they really do give a great feel for what was happening. I like the last edit for the reasons mentioned and like Dale I find the Shaolin one a very fascinating shot. #10714445
