“King’s Courtship”

Description

Two King Penguins, set apart from the greater colony, perform their instinct driven courtship ritual. The backdrop is immense, the creatures small, but as rugged and sturdy as the harsh environment demands.

On the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia the shore ice thaws earlier and the land along the coast is laid bare sooner, allowing for a longer and more successful breeding season than elsewhere. The variety and quantity of wildlife is breathtaking, with great numbers of King penguins, fur seals, elephant seals, and numerous assorted birds, including the great wandering albatross.

Exif: F Number: 8, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/160 seconds, Flash: did not fire., ISO: 100, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 120.00 mm, Model: NIKON D80

From my experience with King Penguins in South Georgia, it looks to me like they are both sleeping. #1651666
