 Schreiner Mansion, Kerrville, Texas Description: Capt. Charles Schreiner came to Texas 1852 and served with distinction with Texas Rangers 1854-1857, fought with confederacy in Civil war, 1869 began general store in Kerrville, expanded into banking, ranching and marketing wool and mohair. By 1900 he owned 600,000 acres and by 1945 his store was one of the most progressive in the southwest. His philanthropic endeavors included building Schreiner College in Kerrville.
