Located just east of the Forum in Rome, the Colosseum was begun in 72 A.D. and completed in 80 A.D. It could hold 50,000 spectators and was used for gladiatorial games, as well as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, dramas, and re-enactments of famous battles.
