"Iao Valley - Maui, Hawaii"

Uploaded: January 26, 2013 21:37:25

Description

Towering emerald peaks guard the lush valley floor of the Iao Valley. The iconic green-mantled rock is 1,200 feet tall and overlooks the Iao Stream. Aside from its natural tropical beauty, sacred Iao Valley has great historical significance. It was here in 1790 at the Battle of Kepaniwai that King Kamehameha clashed with Maui's army in his quest to unite the islands. Even with Iao Needle serving as a lookout, Kamehameha defeated Maui's forces which changed the course of Hawaiian history.
