Nothing like a good slobber

This is the latest addition to Orana Park in Christchurch, New Zealand. This baby giraffe was born on 26 November and was only a week old when I took this photo. It is a female calf and as yet unnamed. Her mother, Tunu, lost her last calf when it died at two months of age from a stomach ulcer. The calf's father, Harold, died in June of this year. This is a very precious calf and everybody is excited that she has arrived safely. Her mother is very attentive and protective of her. The baby is doing very well and it is looking positive for her survival.
