Bridge to Heaven

Very nice sunset Dale. I like the bridge leading you into the shot and the nice patch of blue sky.

Looks just a touch noisy to me and would suggest a light noise reduction. #1501669

Dale Hardin level-deluxe 12/3/2012 12:56:29 PM

Thank you Mike. I had already done the reduction and it was getting a bit blurry, so stopped. #10448882

Very nice, Dale and congrats on the EP.

The only issue I have is the foreground plants on the right side. With now stems, they don't feel grounded to me. #10448886

Rita K. Connell level-deluxe 12/3/2012 1:41:25 PM

love the bridge and the curve it makes right into the sunset. congrat's on EP
I'm with jeff on the plants they are a little distracting. Beautiful sky! #10448943

It is a nice sunset. Took me a long time figure out the title. #10448972

Dale Hardin level-deluxe 12/3/2012 3:28:11 PM

Thanks everyone. I actually chose the one with the foreground plants for the added depth. Here are a few more from the same shoot. #10449071

Beautiful sunset!

I have to agree with the foreground plants. They are distracting. Other than that I love this shot.

I also like the second and third photos of your last post. I love the stars on the sun and car lights. And I think the last one is a great alternative to the distracting foliage of your original post. However they are all beautiful :) #10449469

Dale Hardin level-deluxe 12/3/2012 10:27:21 PM

Thanks Teresa. Believe it or not, this was the only sunset shot of the entire trip and we had to wait around for 1/2 hour to get this one. On the South Island trip, we had sunrise shots and sunset shots nearly every day. #10449578

Hi Dale, congrats on the EP! I like the foreground plants for the reason you mentioned and my eyes like to stay busy in a photo! I am crazy busy myself but in 8 days it will all be over and I can settle back into some normal living! #10449960

I think my blood sugar is a bit low so I'm a little grouchy. I will probably have to apologise later.
But friends, what is all this 'distracting" stuff we have been seeing in commentries for these past months? Try as I may, I cannot see why any image is spoiled by a twig, or a leaf. In fact, I will venture to say that compositionally Dale's orginal image is stronger by having that right side foliage , plus the dark band of clouds at the top and the other foliage along the bottom; they all hold the image together very nicely.
I am surprised that no-one has suggested removing the roadside notice board on the bridge , I would have thought that would have really distracted some of you. (I will force a smile as I say that!) #10450371

Dale Hardin level-deluxe 12/4/2012 9:47:53 AM

Thank you Kristin and Peter. The reason I chose the one with the plants was not only for the added depth but because it helped frame the shot and for me, it was the more interesting composition.

I also really like the car image, not only because of the light, and the car's star headlights, and the comp, but because I had to walk halfway across that bridge and lean over the rail to get it. :O) The exercise did me good. #10450492

Beautiful shots, Dale. (Peter, can I joke that I was going to suggest the bridge is distracting and maybe Dale should photoshop that :) #10451527

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa! Ever since you joined the club I have wondered what lay behind that impish expression on your avatar. Now I know!
I want you to repeat after me ten times "We are serious photographers; we are serious photographers, we are..........". #10451655

Rita K. Connell level-deluxe 12/5/2012 8:50:19 AM

maybe I am a little grouchy today but its not because on low sugar. pete you spank us if we use just awesome or beautiful to describe a image and then when we go in to detail you spank us because we find a distraction can't have it both ways. Peter....!!! I thought this club was to say whats on your mind. And I believe our minds have been changed many time both ways leaving and taking out! so for me I find the weed in the front middle a distraction because if makes me focus on it long before I get to the bridge and beautiful sky.

as for your other shots Dale the are all great shots and I really like the one with car because of the head lights very cool. #10452195

Dale Hardin level-deluxe 12/5/2012 9:14:52 AM

Thank you Lisa and thanks for making me laugh. Hmmm, take out the bridge and leave the plants....... novel idea and challenging too. :o)

Rita, thanks for your comments. I like the headlight also. #10452245

Dale -- Goodness... Just look at what I have been missing. Second operation is now over but I got the flu or something at the surgicenter so I got two for one. So tomorrow I get to go to the doctor for a check up on the stitches and in the afternoon to my PCP for hopefully some antibiotics. Anyhow, long story short -- I liked the second shot with no foliage best but if I hadn't seen the "cleaner" one I would have been fine with your original. Obviously it worked fine with the judges since you garnered an EP with it. Actually, I like all of them, Dale. #10452722

Dale Hardin level-deluxe 12/5/2012 9:49:02 PM

Thank you Debbie for taking the time to comment while you're on the mend. Hopefully you'll be your old self and feel completely well very soon. #10452800

Jeff E Jensen level-deluxe 12/6/2012 11:08:51 AM

The reason for my comment on the plants is that the group at the top aren't connected to anything. If there were a stem leading to the ground (or at least in that direction), I'd be okay with it. The sign doesn't bother me because it is all there. If there were just an edge of the sign coming into the frame, without a post to hold it up, I'd feel the same way. #10453565

Dale Hardin level-deluxe 12/6/2012 5:01:01 PM

Good point Jeff. I'd agree that the top plants could be cloned out with no effect to foreground depth issue. I had thought that you did not like the plants there at all, not that you were only refering to the "floating" ones. #10453863
