Description

Shot late last month (July, 2012)while I was on a cruise called Voyage of the Vikings. Alesund is a beautifully situated and very pretty small city, notable among other things for the art nouveau style of many of its buildings. Most of these buildings were built in the 3 years following 1904, when a disastrous fire destroyed much of the town, leaving thousands homeless. The burnt structures had been made of wood. All of the new ones built of concrete or stone so as to be more fire resistant.

Exif: F Number: 10, Exposure Bias Value: -1.00, ExposureTime: 1/320 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 400, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 92.00 mm, Model: NIKON D7000

Thank you very much, Pat, Michelle, Sheryl and Terry! I'm delighted with the Finalist placing! Sheryl,I'm not sure exactly I was when I took this shot. The cruise excursion I went on from Alesund took us to an overlook point, but I also took some photos from the top deck of our cruise ship, and I'm not sure whether I took this shot from the ship or the lookout point. #10339091

Gerda, I love this image - it almost looks as though Grandma Moses painted it with that unique palette of hers. This will surely move up the Win-Ladder. #10341011

Thank you very much, Sheryl. I took this shot back in 2012 when we were on a Transatlantic cruise. I loved Alesund and took dozens of photos of it, both from the cruise ship, from in the town itself, and from a visitor's centre outside the town that had a walkaround outside deck from which you could look down on the town. I'm not sure where I took this photo from, but I think it was probably an upper deck of the ship. -Gerda. #11121132
