So you had one of your old cameras converted??? I just love the look of these kinds of shots. This one is beatiful with the v shaped composition and the tree on the third. Now do all of them come out with the red hue due to the type of conversion or did you do that in PS? :~) #1464984

Jeff E Jensen May 24, 2012

Aimee - this was shot with my buddy Doug's converted camera. I plan on having one of mine converted someday, though. This was the first I had ever shot IR, it was a bit of a trip. This is the hue they come out in, though this has been enhanced a bit in Lightroom.

Here's another image, this one converted to B&W using a gradient map. #10149066

Very nice shot. I especially love the black and white image. I would hang that on my wall and be happy to look at it every day. #10149128

It's a very neat kind of photography. How much does it cost one to have a body converted to IR? #10149316

Jeff E Jensen May 25, 2012

Thanks, Ladies! It definitely produces some interesting results. My buddy Doug does some pretty cool portrait work with it.

Aimee - there's a local shop here that will do the conversion for about $300. That also includes a full overhaul of your shutter box. Not a bad deal, just not at the top of my priority list right now. #10149354

Yeah....that's not bad, but tough to spend on a camera that only does one type of photography. Unless you have alot of money to throw around which excludes just about all of us! lol

I think you should post that other shot you just put on FB...the one with the lens flare. #10149391

I plan on waiting till I buy my next camera. Right now, I have two bodies. I like having a spare for just in case and for the kids to use. When I buy a new body (not anytime soon), I will be able to have a spare and an IR dedicated camera.

Here's a couple more, including the one you saw on Facebook. #10149407

very interesting Jeff, I really really like your last to post the best. very interesting. personally I have never heard of IR what exactly do they do to the body of your camera? #10149480

I find IR photography very intriguing. I'd love to shoots some IR images someday.

I love all of these images, however I think my favorite is Summertime Frost.

Did you have a digital camera converted or are you using IR film? #10149507

Jeff E Jensen May 25, 2012

Thanks ladies!

Rita - All digital cameras have a filter on the sensor that filters out most infrared light. With a conversion, they remove that filter. Here's a link: http://www.spencerscamera.com/index.cfm

Teresa - this was my buddy's camera, someday I'll convert one of mine. #10149598

Interesting stuff jeff. Lens flare and frost are my favorites. Have seen only a few IR images that appealed much to me. Can't imagine paying to have a camera do only one type shot.

Am curious to see how a dedicated camera compares to a software conversion of the same image. #10149663

These are very nice Jeff! My favorites are the lens flare and the B&W conversion. Actually IR is one type of shooting I never tried in my film days and I probably would not do a digital camera conversion. It can be spectacular though with the right subject as you have shown here. #10149814

Thanks, phellas!

You are right, Mike. It takes the right subject to make it work. #10149837
