The Pelican's Bill

Uploaded: April 24, 2012

Description

The pelican bill is the bird's most distinctive feature. But can a pelican's bill hold more than it's belly can? I'll answer that with this famous limerick written by humorist Dixon Lanier Merritt in 1910.

"Oh, a wondrous bird is the pelican! His bill holds more than his belican. He can take in his beak Enough food for a week. But I'm darned if I know how the helican."
