AKA Beavertail Cactus and Blooms. A lot easier to say. There are so many varieties of this wonder plant. The fruit is wonderful providing lots of good treats for the birds. This plant actually just self seeded in our yard probably thanks to a little bird! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I've had the absolute best time browsing your recent cacti photos, Pat...Fabulous work and no exception here, for sure. Gorgeous details, color and light and against the dark b/g, quite a standout! (Is this of the same family as the TX prickly pear cactus??) #1458022Patricia A. Casey April 22, 2012
I really attempt to match the Latin Botanical Name to the plant...this one in the "Cacti & Succulents Guide" by Simon & Schuster looks like the plant #230 in that book. The desciption says it grows in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas & Arizona to Chihuahua, Mexico. The variety grows in Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas & New Mexico to the border. I have actually started using a black cloth to isolate the plant & flowers....I think it helps...but I love the plants just as they are....Thank you for your kind words Val...Have a wonderful day !Tammy Espino April 22, 2012
Wonderful capture! They might look at me wierd if I carried a black cloth to the cactus garden here, but I like your idea,it does bring out the flowers fantastic!! :) #10104511Neal D. Hatcher April 22, 2012
