Description

Roslyn, Washington, was a coal mining town founded in 1886. Coal mining was a dangerous occupation, and many miners lost their life to it. Today, in addition to a memorial in their honor, is this weathered coal mining mural painted on the side of a brick building adjacent to, The Brick. Interestingly, The Brick got it’s name from being rebuilt with 45,000 bricks in 1889, is the oldest continuously operated saloon in Washington State, and still has an old (running water style) spittoon on the floor in front of the bar. Captured with a handheld DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera set at ISO 400 and f/8 using a wide-angle zoom lens (12 to 24). Entered into “Travel & Place” category.
