I like using layers, filters, actions and painting.
I am working on putting together a list of filters and actions that I have used and like (many free, some commercial). If you are interested in it, email me with the version of Adobe you are using (some filters and actions do not work with all Adobe products). I am hoping to have the list together by the end of October...

Unavailable EXIF: If there is no other information but 'Unavailable' in the EXIF (meaning no EXIF data exists with the photo), the 'Unavailable' blurb is not displayed. If there is any info, it shows. Many photos have the EXIF stripped out when people modify the image and resave it, before uploading.
