"Oh So Pretty" -- This is such a great portrait, I'm going to be a little nit-picky here. I think this is worth the trouble.

1) see if you can enhance the catchlight just a little.

2) those three twigs dropping straight down from the top, particularly the one right down into his head, could be removed.

3) as with all my shots, it just feels a little soft, particularly along the beak. Would you want to sharpen it any?

I'll be interested to hear if there any any tonal edit suggestions from the other Phello's.

I prefer the other, though, just for content and story line. For contest submission, I would expect the other to do better since it is more unique. It also might do great with a monochrome or pencil sketch treatment. #9923562

I just love 'Snow Fall'! The light is so pretty and it's cute how the bird is all puffed up. 'O So Pretty' is wonderful as well and I agree with Stephens suggestions. Anything you can do to make the head pop more would be nice as I feel it doesn't get as much attention as the rest of the body due to lighting and sharpness. :~) #9923572

Oh, for some pretty birds to photograph. Maybe someday. You have really gotten good at your wonderful bird images. It does help to have colorful birds at your beck and call. I especially like Snow Fall and agree with Stephen about the twigs. Perfect! #9924193

A couple of awesome shots Rita! I really love the one in the tree because of the color combinations. Both are crystal clear and very good portraits of these little guys. I do think Stephen's suggestions worked out well in your edited version. I like it even better than the first post. I love how your catching all the shots with that snowing in the picture which you can tell very clearly.

I have one more minor suggestion starting from the edited version to reduce the red on his beak just slightly. It just seems a touch oversaturated.

thanks so much for all the kind words. Mike I will work on it tomorrow not having a very good day. gurr.....!!! I do shoot through the window but alot of times I do open the window. my window opens left to right or right to left and I can tuck myself so they don't see me to much and I try to wear something dark, which helps alot. my trees and feeder are only about 15 feet from the window. they are pretty skiddish, some more than others. #9926405

G'day RITA!

While the subject is a 'bird on a stick', for me this image holds a strong emotional connection.

It is the empathy and sympathy I feel for our fluffed up little feathered friend as it endures the freeze of winter and the falling snow. Without that ambience the photograph wouls have far less impact.

Photographed and processed superbly and with that startling crest, you have made our avian friend a hero.
