Description

This coffee flavoured candid was shot through the crowd inside the Crèma Espresso Bar, the greatest coffeehouse in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia.

My best mate Pete and I had turned up on this glorious Sunday hoping for a table outside but due to the crowd we were forced inside. After bagging this shot I am so glad we were.

Canon EOS 40D with Canon 28-135mm IS USM lens: RAW, f/5.6 @ 1/50sec, 115mm, ISO 400.
Lightroom 3.

The Making of '...across a crowded room...'

I spotted the pretty subject of this candid shot about 6 metres way from my seat inside the Crèma and with that glorious light flooding in from the open double door and windows, I hoped upon hope to be able to make a decent shot.

Patience and observation were my virtues on this day and as I saw a gap in the crowd, the girl donned her boyfriend's hat and started a conversation with one of her friends. Serendipity.

Camera settings were made from a couple of earlier test shots and ensured a good exposure with no blown out highlights on the subject.
