Red Bellied Woodpecker

Description

was all set up to shoot birds on my feeder (Doves and parrots)....I had my D700, Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 AFS, and my Gitzo tripod all set up and dialed in with the right setting for the lighting conditions....and low and behold the little Red Bellied Woodpecker landed about 8 ft from me on one of my Palm Trees.... I have been trying for years to get close to one of these... I was afraid to click the shutter and spook it.... but it stuck around for a 1/2 dozen shots....... Now I had no clue if the shots were exposed properly because I was afraid to move my head and look. But I had just dialed everything in a few minutes earlier, so I felt pretty good that the exposure was correct :drinks:

Sometimes photography IS about luck.... Here is the image.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Could not have been more perfectly executed, Joe. The bird may have been too young to have fear! #1416216
