Description

Salix artica - Another plant growing on Thompson Pass - A very small family of willow that grows as runners in the tundra. Sometimes they're just a little bundle of leaves sticking out of the ground. They make some fairly large pussy willows though. This one is roughly 1.5 cm in diameter.

Thanks for all your great comments! I'm glad so many of you find these wild plants interesting. It's a whole different world on top of the mountain where the summers are extremely short and everything is buried in 20 - 50 ft of snow all winter. Everything except alders is very short and tiny. #107461

Thank you, everyone for your very nice congratulations and well wishes! I was a bit surprised that out of all my entries last month, this one would make the finals. A pleasant surpise, though :-) I appreciate all the continual support that you all give me on a daily basis! #139430
