Description

A tiny black-bellied whistling duckling separated from his Mom and siblings...poor little thing was completely overwhelmed by the immensity of the pond and which way to go to find his family...so I took advantage of him finally slowing down long enough for a photo! :) They move soooo fast! And yes, he did make it back to his family with a lot of instructional "whistling" along the way...black-bellied whistlers really do make this weird sort of whistling sound!

I have seen that sheer panic in ducklings many times when they realise mum isn't around anymore. I hope they got reunited. This is a gorgeous image Valarie. #9736747

Thanks everyone - I should have mentioned that this little fellow did find his way back to Mom and siblings...and Dad, too! Both parents take an active part in raising their little brood. Wonderful to watch Mom, Dad and their tiny ones making their way thru the water lilies. #9736961

It's an enjoyable capture Val and excellent story telling that has a happy ending. I love happy endings, a great picture and tale I can share with my very young nieces that I'm sure are gonna be thrilled. This will go well on a children's story and book cover. #9744889

Wonderful capture of this little one, Val! The detail and clarity are marvelous! I had sort of a similar post quite a while back of a little duckling on a lily pad frantically looking for his mother - but yours is so much better! #9745401
