This is such an incredible image...I fully expect it to be in the winner's circle! Would you PLEASE share how you did it? #115454

Michael McMurrough May 26, 2019

Thanks everyone!

This image is really rather simple. It's an upside-down martini glass (fancy variety with the curvaceous stem) placed in front of a set of venetion blinds. Light was provided by a table lamp with the shade swiveled to give an interesting effect.

I shot the photo in RAW mode and adjusted the white balance for fluorescent (though it was shot under tungsten) when I developed the TIFF file for processing. This gives it the orange glow. Processing the image was as follows: slight crop to the original, levels and curves adjustment, a few minor spot edits to get get rid of some stray reflections and a couple of hot pixels, resized and sharpened.

I don't think of it as a digital art creation, but rahter, as a photo with a creative white balance.

WOW...I had no idea that changing from RAW to TIFF would result in an orange glow! I guess, along with the white balalce set to fluorescent...I'll have to try that one...You got an amazing result! I never would have seen the martini glass...I thought it was some kind of gel-like substance oozing out of a disc-shaped...something! Thanks so much for sharing your secrets...I really appreciate it! #115547

Michael, this is absolutly a stunning photograph! Congrats on a well deserved win! What I like even more though is how you spent the time to explain how you created this piece of art. We all have different strengths and weaknesses, and different amounts of experience. To me that is what BP is about is helping others improve their work and sharing our strengths. Thank you for doing that! I would have never known what this photo even was if you had not explained it. LOL #117279
