Description

First proposed in 1884 by the Grand Traverse Herald it wasn't until 1954 that construction began on a bridge spanning the Straights between Lakes Michigan and Huron. Completed in 1957, the Mackinac Bridge has become a Michigan icon. This statue is located in Bridge View Park on the Upper Peninsula side of the bridge and is dedicated to the five men who died in the construction of Mackinac Bridge.
